Queer Compost

A Storytelling Fundraiser

19 - 22 November

  • We want your leftovers. Your scraps. Your fruit gone bad.
Your tales and stories too queer for the main meal.

Decay is out, fertiliser is in.

FRUIT BOX THEATRE is partnering with THE PLUNGE to bring you four summer nights of good old fashioned storytelling at the Old Fitz. Each night features five storytellers spinning tales from their queer lives inspired by one of our fruity prompts. Join us as we fundraise for another year of theatre magic from the Fruit Box community.

Have a story to tell? Message us at @fruitboxtheatre or email us at hello@fruitboxtheatre.com.au 🍎
Not sure if you have a story? Contact us anyway! We’ll talk you through it :)
Don’t have a story? Buy your ticket to come along and listen!

    1. The story must be true.

    2. The prompt is just a prompt. Interpret it liberally.

    3. The story must have happened to the person that is telling the story. We don't want to hear about your cousin's trip to Bali!

    4. The stories are capped at a total of 5 minutes. We are prepared to politely fade you out…

    5. You will have access to a basic lighting state, amplification, and an aux cord. No tech run, no dress run – compost is organic. What you do with those parameters is up to you!

    6. We will leave one slot available each night for an inspired audience member to take the plunge.

NOTE: All storytellers will receive free entry to the event, a drink voucher at the bar, and a complimentary ticket to Fruit Box Theatre's 2025 productions.

  • Tuesday 19 November: Seed
The pansies you grew from Bunnings seeds. The seed of genius in your bonkers idea. Perhaps you’re in the market for a sperm donor? Or have a breeding kink? We want to know!

    Wednesday 20 November: Tender
Tender memories. Tenderness between siblings, frolleagues or housemates. Evidence or receipts you’re dying to tender. Do you have memories of a tender kiss at a tender age?

    Thursday 21 November: Rot
Rot days. Rotting garbage. Does your housemate leave meal prep to rot at the back of the fridge? Perhaps a rotten relationship slowly soured? Did your mother spoil you rotten?

    Friday 22 November: Abundance
When God said “be fruitful and multiply”, is this what she meant? We want to hear about excess! Your abundance of bad dates, student debts and big dreams. Your bountiful veggie patch and lavish sock collection. Maybe you’re blessed with too much sex, luck or money? Is there any such thing?!

  • Hosts & Producers Madeleine Gandhi, Sean Landis and Sionna Maple

  • Can I read from a script?
Of course. Dot points or script, whatever makes you feel comfortable on stage.

Can I request a specific placement on the line up?
Yes. If going first will ease your nerves, that’s A-OK by us.

Will there be a tech or dress run?
No. Get up and go, baby.

    Can I sing?
Absolutely. Respond to the prompt within the parameters (5 minutes, basic lighting, aux cord) in whatever medium speaks to you. This could be sketching on-stage, playing your harpsichord, Auslan, call and response, structured improv.

Can I bring props or tracks?
Yes, as long as you bring it with you on the night. You won’t be able to enter the theatre to drop anything off in advance. We can press play on one track using an aux cord.

What if I get cold feet?
Let us know as soon as you feel unsure about performing. We’ll work something out.
